There’s something about the word “contouring” that instills fear, regardless of the makeup experience you might have. By following our easy 5 step process below, you’ll soon realize that contouring doesn’t need to be scary.
1. Create a base.
Once you’ve applied your foundation and concealer, brush on a light layer of translucent powder to your face to create a clean base to ensure that the contour can go on smoothly and to also help your makeup stay on for longer.
2. Choosing the right shade and texture.
Your contouring product shouldn’t be more than two shades darker than your complexion to ensure the perfect fit.
3. Layer your product
Try use a layering technique when applying your product. Begin with a light application of the product and slowly add color until you get the subtle carve-out look that you’ve been searching for. The aim is that you get compliments on your features and not on the product. Don't forget to blend, blend, blend in between layers!
4. Don’t contour everything
A little contouring could go a long way. Although you can contour your whole face, you don’t have to. Create striking dimensions and depth by placing most of your focus on your cheeks, nose, forehead and jawline:
